Force Dimension announced today that its delta.3 and delta.6 haptic products have received a major update. These modifications improve both the performance and usability of the devices by integrating the results of Force Dimension's recent developments in actuation, kinematic design and control technologies.
The new delta.x family offer many innovative refinements, including an upgraded transmission link mechanism. These new actuated articulations dramatically increase the overall transparency of the system, while efficiently reducing the perceived inertia. The new design further increases the overall mechanical stiffness, and therefore augments the dynamic bandwidth of the system, allowing for haptic rendering of extremely hard materials and surfaces. The new design also includes Force Dimension's hybrid gravity compensation mechanism which combines passive and active elements with a dedicated calibration procedure performed on each device for perfect gravity compensation.
Every new delta.x also features a stand-alone USB 2.0 controller that is fully compatible with the recently introduced Force Dimension Haptics SDK and Robotics SDK. The new controller is a key element in exposing a uniform user interface and programming interface for all Force Dimension haptic products, making development of versatile and reliable touch-enabled applications easier than ever. Software drivers for the new delta.x are available on a wide range of platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and QNX, in both 32- and 64-bits editions.
